School Profile

Since its founding in 1994 as an integrated curriculum high school, Sakado Senior High School at the University of Tsukuba has created curricula and disciplines in response to contemporary demands.

The WWL (World Wide Learning) Consortium Project was chosen for the University of Tsukuba in 2019. Based on its success in the SGH (Super Global High School) project, Tsukusaka was chosen to move forward with this initiative as a base school.

As a recognized International Baccalaureate (IB) school, Tsukusaka also strives to fulfill the IB's goal statement, which is to "develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect”.

Academic Support System

Tsukusaka's global education program enhances students' communication skills and problem-solving abilities. Over three years, students refine their English skills by engaging with social issues that interest them, using these topics as a foundation for learning. This approach encourages active participation in identifying and implementing solutions to promote a sustainable society. Additionally, first-year students participate in ASEAN fieldwork, visiting countries like Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia. This hands-on experience allows them to explore challenges that cannot be fully understood through books or the internet by interacting with local communities.

Tsukusaka also offers a "Global Life" class, where first-year students explore global issues and develop a sense of global citizenship. International fieldwork opportunities, such as at a national park in Indonesia, involve collaborative activities with partner schools like Kornita Senior High School and Bogor Agricultural University. These initiatives are part of the WWL project and extend to locations like Australia. Furthermore, Tsukusaka participates in the "Campus-in-Campus" high school version, collaborating with overseas partner schools to conduct graduation research and international fieldwork. This program aligns with the University of Tsukuba's global initiatives, fostering a rich academic environment for students.

Teaching System

Tsukusaka emphasizes creative learning by fostering autonomy and self-reflection among students, encouraging them to explore their aspirations and identity. Through programs like T-GAP, students can take the initiative to enhance their problem-solving and management skills as they create and implement action plans for social issues in teams. Independent learning is also supported through elective courses, where students can discover their learning style and practice self-assessment, judgment, and decision-making. In addition, the graduate research program sharpens critical and analytical thinking skills, preparing students to become lifelong learners.
